How does a free initial consultation work at the Cavers Law Firm?

You first must contact the Cavers Law Firm at 713-528-2400 and schedule the initial consultation meeting.  This meeting is usually held in person, but under extraordinary circumstances can be conducted over the phone.  The meeting allows the lawyer to gather facts about your specific situation.  The lawyer will discuss your facts and wishes related to representation.  There are multiple outcomes from the consultation. 
The lawyer may state that they cannot take your case.  This may happen due to a conflict of interest.  An example would be if you wanted to file suit against a former client of the lawyer.  In this case, the attorney may not be able to accept the case since he/she had previously represented the other party.

The lawyer could come back with a proposal for representation based on a retainer/hourly rate or a flat fee.  You may then decide whether or not to hire the lawyer.  The lawyer may recommend that you hire a different lawyer.  Your legal needs might require an attorney that specializes in a different area of law practice.

The lawyer might advise that you do not have a solid case and let you decide how you want to proceed in this situation.  These are not all the potential responses that you may receive from a lawyer, but they give you an idea of how the process works.  It is important for the lawyer to hear the facts about your specific situation.  The initial consultation provides the method for this meeting to take place.  The potential client is still in charge of his/her future and can wait to hear back from the lawyer and determine how to best proceed.  A fee is not required at the time of the initial consultation.

How much free time do I have in the initial consultation meeting?

Each prospective client receives thirty (30) minutes of time with an attorney.  It is important to be prepared as much as possible to make best use of this time.
